McPherson Sample Handling Chambers for Spectroscopy (see also total systems and applications.)

sample chamber for Transmittance, Fluorescence, Raman, Photoluminescence, Reflectance
Workstation, the Fastest, Most Versatile Sample Chamber … f/2 optics are employed in this unique sample chamber to direct the beam for transmission, luminescence or fluorescence measurements. There are two (fluorescence) ports positioned in a "T" formation to allow simultaneous measurement of perpendicular or parallel polarized light. Photomultiplier tubes or monochromators (eg. 272 or 2035) can be attached to each port. The sample chamber supports numerous filter holders and polarizer positions. You can do Raman measurements and all elements can be gas purged enabling efficient work in the infrared. This unique sample chamber accepts various types of cells. Gas cells, 10 x 10mm cuvettes, flow cells and 25mm disks are the standards. Complex sample cells are available with constant temperature (between 30°C and 100°C by water) and stirring.
Model 107 ... Sample diameters to 50mm. Variable angle of incidence: 6 to 60 degrees. Reflectance (emission) detection angle: 12 to 180 degrees. Photomultiplier and/or IR photodiode detectors. Specular and diffuse (optional) methods can be employed.
The McPherson Model 107 transmission and reflectance sample chamber is constructed to allow a combination of sample and detector movements. Cuvettes and liquid or gas cells may be mounted with special adapters. Depending on the selected monochromator the 107 is capable of very broad spectral coverage. The detector module accommodates two permanently installed detectors (usually a photomultiplier and PbS detector) for wavelength coverage from UV to Infrared. Several McPherson monochromator models and source units can be employed to suit. Our "VisIR Spectrophotometer" is comprised of the 107 sample chamber with the 350mm focal length Model 2035 monochromator. The 107 sample compartment is easily accessible and simple to operate.

Model 108 ... Sample diameters to 150mm. XY, tip and tilt adjustable sample holder. XY and rotation of sample permit spatial mapping. Variable angle of incidence: 5 to 60 degrees. Reflectance (emission) detection angle: 10 to 180 degrees. Photomultiplier and/or IR photodiode detectors. Specular and diffuse (optional) methods can be employed.
Model 108 Reflectance/Transmittance Accessory for larger samples is equipped with a all-reflective, first surface collimator. Sample stage moves in the horizontal and vertical plane and pitch and roll adjustments permit optimum alignment of the sample. Rotational adjustment allows spatial mapping of the complete sample area. Sample stage and detector position are both given in degrees. This unit works well with McPherson monochromator models 207, 2061, 209 and 2062.

Model 109 ... Diffuse Reflectance & Transmittance Accessory for 25mm diameter samples. Measures diffuse reflectance and specular reflectance may be included or excluded. Measures transmission.
The McPherson Model 109 accessory simplifies testing of diffuse reflectance and transmittance as well as other common spectral measurements (color, etc.) The McPherson Model 109 utilizes an integrating sphere with several testing ports where samples can be analyzed. Bolting on to most McPherson monochromators, retrofitting your older model is as easy. Applications for monochromators equipped with the 109 include:
  • Diffuse and specular reflectance testing
  • Transmission testing
  • Intensity measurement: The integrating properties of the sphere combined with the unsurpassed precision of a McPherson monochromator are ideal for testing intensity and output wavelengths of sources, known or unknown.

Raman, Photoluminescence, Fluorescence sample chamber
Model 125 ... Sample Chamber for Raman and Fluorescence Measurements with high throughput optics and built in XYZ sample positioning. It accepts cuvettes, test tubes, solids, etc. Includes space for mounting filters and polarizers.
Model 125 sample accessory is designed to provide flexible mounting of samples for 90° excitation/emission spectroscopy. Raman, PL and Fluorescence techniques are well served by the 90 degree configuration with incident laser focusing, and lens coupling to the spectrometer. Reflectors are provided to optimize excitation and collection. A broad range of samples may be accepted. Liquid samples are measured in cuvettes (10 x 10 mm), mini test tubes (6 mm diameter), or micro capillaries. Solid samples are measured in similar containers or mounted via the universal clamp. Adjustments and options are included to facilitate most measurements. This accessory is designed to mount directly to the entrance slit of any McPherson spectrometer. We offer systems especially for Raman and PL work too.

Model 121 ... transmission and variable angle reflectance measurements under vacuum and/or purge conditions. Sample diameters to 25mm (adapters available for smaller.) Variable angle of incidence: 10 to 60 degrees. Reflectance (emission) detection angle: 20 to 180 degrees.
McPherson has a variety of vacuum and purge compatible measurement systems for checking Reflectance and Transmittance. Combined with efficient McPherson monochromators these systems operate in single beam mode. Sample stage moves in the vertical plane and allows indexing between 3 positions: sample, reference, blank.
To work through the 30nm to 370nm wavelength range the 121 sample chamber should be equipped with the high throughput vacuum monochromator like the McPherson 234/302. The hollow cathode light source Model 629 has select emission lines throughout this region. For work from 120 to 380nm a Deuterium lamp like the Model 632 can be used as a source. The 121 chamber readily reaches <10 -6 Torr vacuum region with proper pumping (optional.)

Model 121MX ...transmission and variable angle reflectance measurements under vacuum and/or purge conditions. Sample diameters to 300mm (adapters available for smaller.) XY, tip and tilt adjustable sample holder. XY and rotation of sample permit spatial mapping. Variable angle of incidence: 10 to 60 degrees. Reflectance (emission) detection angle: 20 to 180 degrees.
Here, some sample chambers for large samples, up to 300mm diameter and 100mm thick. These modified 'MX' versions of the 121 reflectometer also handle 6025 samples and semiconductor wafers. The occasionally massive samples load horizontally. Sample stage moves in the horizontal and vertical plane and the sample can be scanned across the measuring beam over a 150mm distance. Pitch and roll adjustments are possible to permit optimum alignment of the sample. Rotational adjustment (through 180 degrees) allows spatial mapping of the total sample area.
These clean systems readily reaches <10 -6 Torr vacuum region with proper pumping (optional) or in case you work with purge gas, values <1ppm O2 and H2O with dry Nitrogen are routinely achieved.

Phosphor test chamber ... Vacuum or purge environment chamber is ideal for coupling to ultraviolet line emission sources or monochromators to excite samples with tunable ultraviolet energy. Fast shuttered emission allows to measure and monitor emission, excitation and lifetime of signal. Systems for industry handle up to 20, ambient temperature, 25mm diameter sample cups with horizontal mounting. We also manufacture single sample holders with cryogenic cooling and/or heating (to 400deg C.) This sample chamber is routinely integrated to complete systems like PDP and phosphor test system. For work from 120 to 380nm a Deuterium lamp like the Model 632 is used for excitation. We can also provide Excimer line lamps working in the vacuum and ultraviolet. The sample chamber reaches <10 -6 Torr vacuum region with proper pumping (optional.)
