X, Y, Z Translation Stage The McPherson screw type translation stage translates the pitch, yaw, and roll stage, independently, in the X, Z directions. All mechanisms are external to the vacuum to allow for easy adjustment and maintenance without breaking vacuum. The unit can be used in any orientation. Rugged construction can handle loads of 200 lb. |
All motions of the translation stage are constrained by precision linear ball bearing blocks. The stages are driven by precision heavy-duty acme lead screws. The X and Z motions are driven by stepper motors, two handles on the front of the unit can also be used to manually drive the unit.
The X-translation is actuated by a .100" pitch leadscrew so 1 rotation of the stepper motor or the X-translation handle results in a motion of .100". The maximum X-travel is +/- 1.25"
The Z-translation is actuated by three .100" pitch leadscrews. The leadscrews are simultaneously driven by a continuous chain and sprockets. The master sprocket is driven by a 50:1 worm gear connected to the handle. One rotation of the stepper motor or Z-translation handle moves the Z Stage .002". The maximum Z-travel is +/- 1.25"
