McPherson SGM beamline monochromator as the type built for the Canadian Light Source (CLS) prior to its construction in Saskatoon. The beamline was installed at SRC in Wisconsin. McPherson provided this high performance monochromator complete with a heat sink cooled entrance slit, cooled focusing optics, internally cooled gratings (3) and delivered complete with exit optics to focus at the experimental chambers. McPherson helped with installation and the subsequent move from Wisconsin to Saskatoon.

Current McPherson ultra high vacuum (UHV) instruments are baked and RGA tested prior to shipment. Unique proven McPherson designs separate support members for chambers and precision grating mechanism. This for reduced sensitivity to vibration and thermal environmental factors. Scan grating angle by computer control and use rotary or laser tilt encoders for absolute feedback. Index gratings under vacuum, manually or by motor control. We have a variety of beam line instruments and accessories available.

The McPherson Spherical Grating Monochromator beamline purchased by the Canadian Synchrotron Radiation Facility (CSRF) for installation at the University of Wisconsin’s Synchrotron Radiation Center achieved better than expected results. At the Nitrogen K-edge (~ 402 eV or 3.1 nm), the beamline monochromator exhibited 10,000 resolving power. This is an extremely high performance accomplished on a bend magnet port and with full grating illumination.
